A mandate is an authorisation to act, a charge to get things done, a commission to carry out
\nan injunction, a precept to adhere to, a guideline to follow without deviation, and an important
\norder which must be obeyed. God can give a mandate to an individual, a group of people or a
\nnation. Satan also gives mandates to those who serve him in order to counter God\u2019s work.
\nEvery mandate is specific, it is time bound and it carries a reward as well as sanctions.
\nA Mandate may be defined as:
\na) A legal document such as a letter or warrant which gives one the power to arrest an
\noffender as in the case of Saul of Tarsus who received an authorisation to go to Damascus
\nand arrest Christians in the early church. (Acts 9:1-2).
\n\u00b7 An authorization to do something which may be verbal or written.
\n\u00b7 Marching orders to get a specific task or assignment done.
\n\u00b7 An ordination\/election and investiture with full powers to do things or operate effectively
\nin an office. Every President, Prime Minister, Governor or Senator receives a mandate
\non the day of his\/her inauguration to rule over his\/her domain legally for a specified
\nperiod of time.
\nb) A verbal or written permission or order to get something done as in the case of Ezra and
\nNehemiah. Nehemiah the cupbearer received a mandate from the King to go with a
\ncompany of people to Jerusalem and rebuild the broken walls. A mandate is an order to
\nexecute someone or an assignment, as in the case of Saul the king of Israel who was
\nmandated by God to utterly destroy the people of Amalek (I Samuel 15:1-3).
\nc) A commission to carry out a specific assignment in a certain way, e.g.
\n\u00b7 The man with the ink horn who was mandated to mark the foreheads of the saints (Ezekiel
\n9:1-8).
